Visible Voice

This project is about cultural hegemony between Hollywood and Korean film market. Hollywood films which are based on a large market and capital strength are used for globalization of American culture. Especially in South Korea, after FTA (Free Trade Agreement), a lot of blockbuster movies were imported, causing a crisis in South Korea’s film industry. However, as we live in a capitalist market, it is unavoidable. Thus, we need to not protest or oppose them without reasons but try our best to compete with them fairly. The most important thing is being well-balanced. To reflect this narrative, I chose five Hollywood block buster movies and five well-made Korean movies, and assigned ten symmetric pages for each. This reflects I hope that those two countries’ movies should be equal and balanced. I wanted to show that those patterns played an important role as socio-cultural voice of each country. Sometimes, they are fighting, going well, or being silent. These represent what I want, equilibrium and balance.
