While I was creating ImageFonts, I thought about the space where font is displayed and the possibility on a variation in the space. As font can be printed or typed only, font is hard to pursuit variety of itself due to fixed space and character.
What about 'endowing various spaces'? The project, Helvetica Wirenet, was started with this question.
Thread is weaved at the first space, wirenet. Repeated weaving action fills the wirenet space, but it empties performer's (myself) inside. This is the moment that it fills and empties 2 different spaces, in the performer and in the artwork. As the weaving activity proceeds, plasticity appears. And the object which is created by the plasticity reveals clearly between the spaces (in substance). So this wirenet font can do various functions as space changes. It is both three dimension and two dimension and also has a mobility. Finally, this Helvetica Wirenet realized the "freedom of space".
